James Gunn just went crazy with post-credit scenes for GotG Vol.2 with a total of five scenes after and before the credits started to roll.
If you haven’t seen the movie I suggest you wait before reading because this article will contain spoilers…OBVIOUSLY!
The first of the five scenes shows the ravager Kraglin, who is played by James Gunn brother, Sean Gunn, wearing Youdu’s head fin and practicing with his yaka arrow. This scene suggests that Kraglin could take Youdu’s place in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and there are rumors that Kraglin could appear in Marvel’s Infinity War.
For the second scene, we have Sylvester Stallone character Stakar Ogord assembling various ravager leaders after the death of Yondu. Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum), Aleta (Michelle Yeoh), Mainframe (Miley Cyrus), and Krugarr. With the exception of Kraugarr, all these guys were the original Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics from the 60s. Though Krugarr wasn’t an original Guardian, he is connected to Dr. Strange and succeeds him as Sorcerer Supreme.
The third scene was the most satisfying for me because of Adam Warlock!! In the scene, we have a beaten Ayesha who wants to exact revenge on the Guardians for betraying her. We see this golden birthing pod and she says, “I think I shall call him Adam.” Obviously referring to Adam Warlock, which James Gunn hinted in Guardians Vol. 1 and wanted for Vol. 2 but thought the film could become too clustered. Not sure what route they will take with Adam, but in the comics, he was created by a group of scientists called the Enclaves. He’s a super-being who is strong, fast, durable, and doesn’t need to eat or drink. He can also heal, fly, and is functionally immortal because he can continuously heal himself in that pod.
Baby Groot goes full teenager Groot in the fourth post credit scene. We have Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) telling Teenage Groot that his room is disgusting, covered in vines and tree shaving while Groot just sits there playing a video game. It is unknown how long after the movie this scene takes place so it can be a bit confusing on how fast Groot grows. By the end of Vol.1, Groot went from sticks to a dancing potted plant. By Vol.3 we could see a full grown Groot and he could possibly be bigger than the Groot from Vol. 1.
The final scene shows no other than Stan Lee in his fish bowl helmet and space suit talking to three Watchers. Earlier in the film, we see Lee telling the story of when he was once a FedEx guy, referring to Captain America: Civil War. My theory is that Stan Lee is actually the Earth’s Watcher Uatu, which would explain how he gets on the Watcher’s planet and his various cameos in the MCU. He’s just hiding in plain site. Director James Gunn also believes this, so there is no accident on why he is hanging with some Watchers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in theaters everywhere!
