Deadpool 2 has finally found their Cable after many speculations that he would be played by Brad Pitt, Michael Shannon, and Stranger Things star David Harbour, even Pierce Brosnan was reported in being in the running. However; Josh Brolin has nabbed the role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This is Brolin’s second Marvel Comics character he will play; he also plays the Mad Titan Thanos. We have seen him briefly in Guardians Of The Galaxy and will see his character in a larger role for Marvel’s Infinity Wars. Also being reported is that Brolin’s deal is for four movies.
David Leitch is directing the sequel and the movie is heading towards a June production start in Vancouver. Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool, with Atlanta star Zazie Beetz as the super-powered merc named Domino.
Cable was co-created by Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld and writer Louise Simonson, and is described as in many ways being the opposite of Deadpool: a man who is a leader and used to being obeyed, who is very controlled but with an aura of simmering violence and he is extremely powerful. In the comics, Cable is from the future and is the adult son of Scott Summers, also known as the X-Man Cyclops.
Brolin, who takes center stage as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, is repped by CAA and Ziffren Brittenham.
