Last night during the NBA Finals, Marvel revealed the first teaser trailer to the Black Panther movie and it was alright.  I need to see more, wasn’t that impressed and Black Panther is one of my favorite superhero characters so they better not mess this up.  Anyways, let’s get to know T’Challa before the release of the film.

T’Challa is from an advanced African nation known as Wakanda and the son of Wakanda’s king T’Chaka and N’Yami.  T’Challa’s mother, N’Yami died while giving birth to him and so T’Chaka remarried to Ramonda, played by Angela Basset in the upcoming film.  We got our first look at Black Panther in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War where his father was killed by Baron Zemo but in the comics, T’Chaka met his fate by Ulysses Klaw (Andy Serkis).

From the trailer, it looks as if we will see how T’Challa became the Black Panther.  To earn the title of Black Panther it is Wakanda tradition to battle and defeat various champions of the Wakandan tribes.  Then you must eat a heart-shaped herb; the herb enhances T’Challa’s strength and his senses.  Lastly, he must be approved by the Panther God and only then can you become the Black Panther of Wakanda.  In addition to helming the ceremonial title, he is chief of all Wakanda, and head of state, going on diplomatic missions from time to time.

Black Panther is a brilliant tactician, strategist, scientist, tracker, and master of many forms of martial arts.  He is actually known as the 8th smartest character in the Marvel universe, he’s a political mastermind and holds a Ph.D. from Oxford University.

Fun Fact: Captain America and Black Panther has teamed up in the comics to stop Baron Zemo from completing his solar death ray in Wankada. After watching how well T’Challa fights Captain America offered him a chance to join the Avengers and he accepted but only to spy on the Avengers.

Black Panther have fought and defeated dinosaurs, the Klu Klux Klan, Samurais, Yetis, and even Mephisto, the ruler of Hell.  He did this by ripping out Mephisto’s heart and defeating him in a battle of wits.  All this because Mephisto tried to take Black Panther’s soul and he wasn’t having it.

Another fun fact:  Storm and Black Panther were married; together this powerful couple help end the Civil War.

T’Challa built the Falcon’s wings and has outsmarted Iron Man on many difference occasions.  He helped Reed Richards beat Dr. Doom, and help turn Galactus into a renewable energy source.

Chadwick Boseman is set to star as T’Challa/Black Panther alongside Michael B. Jordan, who will play Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Forest Whitaker, as elder statesman Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as T’Challa’s confidant W’Kabi, Florence Kasumba reprising her role as Ayo, Winston Duke as M’Baku, aka Man-Ape, Danai Gurira Okoye, Letitia Wright, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, and Angela Bassett as Ramonda, mother of T’Challa.

Script by Joe Robert Cole and Ryan Coogler; Black Panther is set to release in theaters on February 16, 2018.
